Have you ever:
- moved to a new city and felt like you did not know much about the local music scene?
- visited a new city and wanted to find a live music show at a local venue?
- wondered where your favorite artist got their start?
These are all the questions that we have try to answer with Locality.org. Here is how it works:
What We Believe
We believe that there are incredible artists living all around us.
We believe local music venues bring people together.
We should support local artists and venues in the same way we support local food and businesses.
Localify is a not-for-profit, academic project that has been created by undergraduate students at Ithaca College. We supported by the National Science Foundation. We do not sell data but we do plan to distribute anonymized data for academic research on local music recommendation. We are not biased by commercial influences. We have no plans to make money off of Localify.
How You Can Help
If you are a lover of local music, we are looking for people to help.
Here are some things you can do ranked from easy (2 minutes or less) to hard:
1) Send Encouragement – email support@localiy.org – students need to feel like they are doing something worthwhile.
2) Send Constructive Feedback – email support@localify.org – we are always looking for ways to improve Localify.
3) Connect Artists to Your City – Search for your city, click the “Suggest Artists”, and add bunch artists to your city. We will then approve these connections so that others Localify users can discover your favorite local artists.
4) Become a City Ambassador – we will send you a packet of posters and stickers that you can use to help get the word out about Localify. And as thanks, we will send you a free Localify Beanie Hat!
5) Join the Team – We need help with artist outreach, marketing, software development, data collection, and related research. It is a volunteer gig since we are an academic project, but experience working on Localify would like great on a resume!
We really want to strengthen local music scenes but we can’t do it alone. We appreciate anything you can do to help out!
